Horses like all other animals before and  presently do not require metal shoes. As wear and load increases so does growth an increase in stimulation is met with an increase in function and health, thin walls thicken, frogs grow large to meet the ground and often the result is a foot one to one and half sizes larger than before. Establishing a good foot is done with  proper and frequent trimmings and more importantly  both a complete diet and movement ,as a foraging herd animal, horses walk themselves to health,It is that simple. Working out of Glocester R.I. enables me to work in CT,.R.I. and Mass. On my initial visit we can look over your horses feet and discuss what may need to" be done and not done"your horse may need maintenance only or we both may agree on a plan to get your horses feet fixed up for the coming spring. If you wish to pull off shoes in order for the feet to have a recovery period thats part of what I do.  I can be reached at 1-401-568-0803 or my cell phone at 1-401-749-0462.E-mails are also checked during the day and evenenings, please use parandes@aol.com

Contracted Heels

Picture
note:
short distance between the ends of the shoe, this frog is not bad, typically the frog on a shod foot is trimmed this fuctionally takes the frog partially out  of the mechanism of action, locked up unable to expand and contract the back of the foot; digital cushion, lateral cartilage, bulbs and frog overtime cannot disapate the energy of the foot fall landing. It is no longer a question, the net result is navicular issues, side bone, ring bone(arthritis)
